The Ring and the Crown
What an interesting twist Melissa De La Cruz put on this classic tale of Avalon, Eleanor of Aquitane and King Leopold of Prussia. She has taken an age old story and added magic and mayhem. Oh and throw in the Astors and you have yourself quite an adventure. Marie is set to marry Leopold of Prussia. She is not interested. She finds him unappealing. She is really in love with her guard Gill. Then there is Wolf, the brother of Leopold and all he wants to do is fight. Until he meets Ronan Astor and falls in love. Don't forget Isabelle, who was supposed to marry Leopold until he was matched with Marie. Finally there is Aelwyn, the daughter of Merlin and lifelong friend of Marie. She has the power of Avalon behind her. All these stories intertwine as each character searches for their purpose in the world. No one is happy. No one is getting their hearts desire. But sometimes duty supersedes happiness when the fates of two countries is at hand. What must you give up to meet your fate? I couldn't put this down. I love stories of royals and stories of magic. So this was a perfect mixture of the two. It wasn't a fairy tale however, as I don't think anyone lives happily ever after. Some may live contentedly ever after, possibly. I hope you enjoy this one my friends and if you do, this amazing author has many other books to tempt you! Off to find out the fate of Jace and Clary- so happy reading my friends!
